Core Beam Computed Tomograpghy (CBCT) in Dentistry

Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a medical imaging technique where multiple X-ray images are taken and then combined to form a 3D representation of the target. CBCT has become increasingly important in the treatment, planning and diagnosis especially in implant dentistry. During dental/orthodontic imaging, the CBCT scanner rotates around the patient’s head, obtaining up to 600 distinct images.  The scanning software collects the data and reconstructs it, producing something that can then be manipulated and visualized with specialized software.
